paidion
child
Say it: pie-DEE-on (approximate)
παιδίον
What it means
A young child, small enough to be carried and watched over. It's a diminutive of pais, "child," and is the word Jesus uses when he places a child among the disciples. In that world a child had no standing or power, which is the point Jesus draws: greatness in the kingdom runs through humility and dependence.
