virgin, young woman
Say it: par-THEH-nos (approximate)
παρθένος
What it means
A young unmarried woman, usually understood to be a virgin. Chapter 7:25-38 is Paul's advice on "virgins," and scholars debate whether he means daughters under a father's care, or engaged couples, or unmarried people in general; the Greek of 7:36-38 is unclear.
