theópneustos

God-breathed

Say it: theh-OP-nyoo-stos (approximate)

θεόπνευστος

What it means

God-breathed (theos "God" plus pneō "breathe"). In 3:16, "every Scripture is God-breathed." It appears only here, in the whole New Testament. It can be read as "breathed out by God" or "inspired by God," and whether the phrase means "all Scripture is God-breathed" or "every God-breathed Scripture is useful" is a matter of grammar that has been argued.
